Coffs Coast Hinterland
Acrylic on Canvas.
1200mm x 1800mm
This work was a finalist in the Country Energy Art Prize for Landscape Painting in 2004, which was hosted in Wagga Wagga, NSW. It was selected as one of the ten best works, which were hung in the Sydney Opera House Art Gallery for three months after the exhibition.
The painting is a conglomeration of different photographic images taken over the Coffs Coast hinterland, when one of my students took me and two of my daughters on an early morning flight to celebrate the achievement of his pilot’s license. My work often draws from a variety of photographs rather than one particular scene. The S-curve of the road is an influence of the organic lines of Brett Whiteley’s work.
